Ultra Dolphins - s/t - CD (2003)

Labels: If And When
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Ultra Dolphins is HOTT. To trot. A mere 5 tracks of groove based, sassed out screamo on this EP, and it’s some pretty entertaining stuff indeed. Not that I have any idea who these guys are. Nor why I picked it up in the first place. Just glad that I did. Because opening effort, “Duck Butter, Then”, is a blast ‘n a half. It trades off raging melodic guitars that make my brain consider Party of Helicopters, before it runs into early Racebannon at full pelt, going all bonkers in the process. The music is complex without getting too clever for it’s own good, and the vocals are yelped and blurted out quite wonderfully (dude even sounds like the guy from Don Martin 3 at times). And they proceed to kick out the jams for another 4 tracks of similar destruction. The music cascades around, bumping into itself and falling royally on it’s arse before bouncing back up again to continue it’s rarely relenting riot. Helter skelter, herky jerky, oops a daisy. Booty shaking is to be had. Fun.
