Under A Dying Sun - These Stitches - 7

Labels: Unfun

My goodness. This record comes packaged in what looks like one of those brown paper bags they give you loaves of freshly baked bread in. Really! Quite unique. Of course, being packaged like that automatically means it has to be an emo record, but at least it’s good emo. Side A is totally reminiscent of the darkly melodic bands of the genre such as Yaphet Kotto and 400 Years. It even has one of those parts where the music totally mellows out and sounds all sombre, with the vocals a distant yell in the background, before the music hurtles back into the “œemo groove” that these bands perpetuate, causing you to clasp your hands together and sway back and forth in your chair. The sung vocals don’t fit so well, but for the most part, this is a really great song, and worth tracking down this 7″ for.

Side B is instrumental in the main, very twinkly and soothing, a little like Mineral. I thought it was going to turn out particularly awesome and explode. But it just kind of peters out into emo rock with desperate sung vocals and sounds a bit like Sunfactor but not as good.

Interesting 7″, could almost be a spit with the difference in styles. Something here for emo kids of all denominations, and those with a more open mind than I will appreciate both sides.
