I’ve never heard much Unwound before apart from their first LP (of which this CD contains tracks) so this retrospecitve provided me with a comprehensive slection of tracks from 91-96. Listening to it provides how much influence they had on the hardcore scene, epsecially on a lot of the San Diego bands. I have listened to it on numerous occasions, and it is very compelling, once you stick this thing in the deck it is kind of hard to stop listening in case you miss something. Musically they share dynamics with bands like Fugazi, Jawbox, Tar and Sonic Youth to give a sound that is hard edged, yet flowing and melodic whilst a repetetive rhythm section forces it’s way into your head. I think you should get this CD if you ain’t yet heard the might of Unwound.
