It feels slightly weird reviewing a Christmas compilation CD in the middle of June when winter is but a cold memory. But hey, it’s for a good cause! The profits made from this CD go to the Shelter charity and it was put out by the rather fabulous Jon of Running Riot Records fame. It comes with a nice A5 booklet with a page of information about each band and some interesting words about how to project came together and about Shelter.
As with every compilation there are some stand-out tracks but what shines through about this is the eclectic mix of bands featured. Top of the pile for me is the always excellent Trencher, who offer around fifty seconds of their trademark growly casio assault but they are complimented by great stuff by Andy Glenn and Ritch, Rydell, Send More Paramedics and Holiday Stabbings. It gets quieter in the second half of the complilation with several slow, more gentle numbers which round it off nicely. There are several songs that are unreleased on here (including tracks by Pixel! Pixel! Pixel! and Annalise) which is another reason to get it.
Not sure if Jon has any of these left as it is a while since they were released but I’m sure he won’t mind you asking. Get it, and if you don’t like it, give to someone else as a present in six months time.
