This sampler wound me up so much. After telling me three times on the packaging that this is a promotional item and isn’t for resale, I put it in to play and even my hifi tells me the same thing! What do they think I’m gonna do? Sell it on ebay for £200? Upload it onto the net and get it heard? Take it into hmv and demand £15 off them? No. Not a good start. Also for a sampler I don’t think whoever put this together quite realised what it should be. No information on bands or releases, just a stink of someone who wants it big time. Even if you were interested in getting this I couldn’t even tell you how and you would probably have to undergo 3 months of strict psychoanalysis and background checks before they let you have one.
Anyway onto the music, 4 measly bands with one measly song each. The first band is Coldplay wannabees “Pioneers’. What a highly misinforming name. One of the most unoriginal bands I’ve ever heard. Obviously want to make it in the industry and their song is bland boring and not at all pioneering, bye.
Next up are Soundgarden wannabees “Slims’. Rubbish fast rubbish grunge rubbish. Kind of like Winnebago Deal but crap.
The third band “Earl’ sound kind of 80’s but crap. Bad female vocals and worse squeals and beeps make up a truly terrible song.
Finally is Dj Shadow wannabee Blue Avenger. Not bad actually, good electronica and its chilled out enough that I would definitely like to hear more from these/him (the notes don’t say!)
So there we are, the worst presented sampler in a while. This label needs to shape up and maybe even read the reviews policy on the site. I always used to think I’d love to have a record label but now I’ve realised that I would love to hear a new unsigned band that I felt strongly about. A band I could help put out and distribute a record that I felt deserved to be heard. These songs only reiterate the wrong reasons for having a label. Congratulations for whoever puts their energy into this label because as far as listening to its output goes, I’d rather put my energy into something else, no anything else.
