Various - Hopelessly Devoted To You Vol. 5 - CD (2004)

Labels: hopeless
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Oh shite.

Melee – This band has two letters in their name that invoke the European character set. I am using notepad to type this review, so too bad. They actually play a fairly nice brand of poppy music that utilises keyboards. It’s not too far removed from the 3rd Promise Ring Lp. The vocals are annoying, but I can tolerate this for the most part. The second song they do on here though is diabolical and sounds like Muse or something.

Amber Pacific – Really wanky pop-punk. Whine whine whine. Like bad Blink 182 crossed with bad Get Up Kids. As bad as music gets.

Thrice – I have never heard Thrice before, appropriately (given their name) they have 3 songs on here. Basically they are whiney pop-metal. So bad. Amazingly bad.

Break the Silence – Break the Wind more like. Shocking metal.

Avenged Sevenfold – CHEESE. SHIT CHEESE. Wow, I was previously unaware that music could be this bad. Avenged Sevenfold have introduced me to knew depths of utter, utter dross. This has to be some of the worst crap I have heard in my life. So many elements of bollocks in one song. Seriously, WOW.

Against All Authority – the first song boring ska-punk with shouty vocals and metal. If you have to listen to ska-punk, listen to Operation Ivy. Or better yet, don’t listen to any ska whatsoever, listen to Crimpshine.

Common Rider – don’t really know what this is, don’t care either

Stairwell – passable indie rock that doesn’t bother me at all. but it’s not really any good either.

Atom and His Package – an Atom live song? Why bother.

Didn’t Hopeless used to put out Dillinger 4? Fuck me. What a terrible sampler CD. This is 50 minutes long and I reviewed it in 10.
