Labels: Crackle Records
Review by: Ian Cavell
This is great – a 29 track sampler from one of the UK’s strongest labels. It features pretty much the entire Crackle roster from past and present (and possibly the future if the unreleased Southport and Soon tracks are anything to go by).
Anyway, ripping it up the best are Southport with the awesome ‘Pilot’. If you’ve seen these guys live then you’ll know they are pretty much untouchable in the melodic punk stakes. Servo crop up with a newbie and an oldie (and proving to everyone in the process that they are one of the best pop bands around). D4 are god like and need no description. Other bands that you might already be familiar with are the sadly departed Caustic Soda (I still maintain that their 7″ on Crackle is the best release this label have put out), pop-punk stalwarts Skimmer and the gone, but not forgotten, Chopper. In terms of previously unreleased songs you can look in the direction of Southport, Soon (ex-Blew god damn it!), Academy Morticians, Cone, One-Car Pile Up and Lovejunk.
All in all, Killed By Crackle is a fantastic compilation of some great bands and unlike many label comps there has obviously been a lot of thought and effort put into this release. In an ideal world, everyone would own a copy.
