Punk Rock Disc. Encapsulating some of the best underground UK bands, Rich goes for it again. We had the pop as hell disc 1, the skate as hell disc 2, the emo-dabbling disc 3, and now the 4th instalment – the most mature yet. Rocking us off is FISHTAKE. I’ve been desperate to hear them, and well… it’s pretty average/half-decent poppy punk with an occasional 80s tinge. Grimsby’s “DISCOUNT meets FACE TO FACE” lot LUNA:SUIT pop along next and take things up a gear, but I know they can do better. Closing side 1 is Brighton’s melodic HC rock gods SCUTTLE with a track off their demo – fecking great stuff. Side 2 opens with our favourite gritpunks SOUTHPORT and “Fallen on Your Feet”. I’m certain this has been on other comps and frankly it’s not “Deja Vu” is it? (Well obviously it’s not cos they’re different songs but… oh y’know). But they rock and if it tickles your pickles you’ll love the album. SCARPER! serve up a punkier number than what we’ve come to expect of their usual fayre – it’s funky; I love SCARPER!. And closing procedures are the one and only EIGHTY-SIX, with their oft whored track “Distance”. Waaaay more e** than their present direction, which is verging on out and out punk rock but a fucking awesome song – you know that one already. Is it me or did I tell Rich about them in the first place? Oh cool! (sorry, just realised as I was reviewing…!) Yep, top job once again.
