Hello! Here I am again to totally not realise how many bands on this record are playing Minutemen covers. Alternatively, this record could
be a tribute to Ronnie Corbett and Jimmy Krankie, I haven’t figured it out yet.
I’m Being Good – this rocks. Plus it has doorbell rings on it. Quality punk rock done all kind of funny. Has this totally strange guitar sound that works great. Squelchy and danceable. Vocals are whacked. Good stuff.
Bilge Pump – I saw these dudes one time, and they were pretty good but I was tired. I also have an old 7″ by them (I think), but that sucks. This is more pretty fucked up stuff where there might be a guy yelling, somewhere distantly. Messy but you can follow it. Enjoyed.
the Murder Of… – bassy spazz stuff with really silly vocals. Has some fast Locust rip off bits. Good fun, weird to hear a UK band doing this emo violence shiz.
Cat on Form – ooh nice intro, downbeat emo style, and it turns into a post-rock type thing with quiet vocals that explodes into screamy emo right near the end. I liked this. Kind of like a more developed and more serious I Hate Myself.
Montana Pete – hmm, kind of garagey or no wavey indie I guess. The kind of stuff that was recorded for 5p on 10p instruments. Not exactly up my street but not terrible.
Old Time Relijun – an insane man yells and the people in the band just kind of piss about. Uh, yeah. Drugs probably involved here. If not, they should be.
Twinkie – overly bassy indie thing. Take it or leave it. Nice vocals that are sung by a girl and shouted by a bloke. Plus stops and starts = indie-math-pop, ha. One time I saw them play 3 songs before Mates of State came on.
Meets Guitar – What meets guitar? a guy sings and plays an acoustic guitar in a folk style. Right.
Maquiladora – nice alt-country stuff, I always like stuff I hear by this band though I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it.
Joeyfat – strange indie stuff with cool talked vocals. Quirky.
Charlottefield – total DC post-hardcore worship here. Good shouty vocals over a subdued melodic DC groove.
Popular – sounds like things. hmm, maybe Joan of Arc without Tim singing. Simple little tune with additional things and effects going on. Nice.
Jay Anderson / Wolf Colonel – Somewhere I have like a 50 track 7″ by Wolf Colonel, it’s good stuff, really short songs with unusual quirks. This is what be an indie rock song like the stuff on that 7″ but this is distorted to fuck. I don’t get it. But that’s the point I bet.
Lo Fi Sucks – indie with keyboards and some telephone vocals. hohum.
Fupper – kinda dark whir click fizz pop electronica. I have a few records like this, and I think I prefer the records.
Gatto Ciliegia – hmm, it has a waltz beat or something. heh. interesting instrumental which I enjoyed.
Ok, there is a review. This is a good, varied comp that you should check out if you like unusual indie things. I still have no idea which bands played Minutemen covers, or maybe none did. Anyways, I have to go watch TV because apparently there is going to be a show on about dudes doing stuff like driving home made cars into giant bowling pins. There is something in it called “the Chimney of Death”. And it’s presented by Henry Rollins.
