Wardance Orange - s/t - 7

Labels: Tribal War
Review by: Andy Malcolm

This appears to be a little old (if the recording date is anything to go by), but that’s not my problem.

Hey look – it’s another band that sounds like it has Chuck from Hot Water Music in. Oh shucks, may as well admit it, that’s why I bought it, cos it’s guaranteed to be good. It might also have someone from Avail in it, I’m not sure, I haven’t got a list of their band members to hand. So, is it as great as I was expecting?

Yes. It rips. One of the best 7″ I’ve heard in ages.

Opening up on “Fianna Fail”, Wardance Orange immediately hit you with some bludgeoningly heavy and grindy hardcore which evolves into crunchy hardcore and then a chantalong, catchy punk rock chorus. This is explosive like lit dynamite – the perfect blend of hardcore and punk. Then there is “Autonomy Gun”, which keeps up this trend, though lessens the punk load to concentrate more on the hardcore, but doesn’t dispense with it totally. Great use of vocals, with both desperate, frantic yelps and singing taking different parts of the song. The flip side continues to batter you with “Whiteout” which is pretty inventive hardcore stuff, not straight-forward at all, the guitars drive and swerve, whilst it sounds like all 4 guys have a go at singing at different points. You can make out what sounds like Chuck’s tones on this one. More of those frantic vox and some awesome screaming too. Finally, “Radio Resistance” kicks off slow and deliberate, before breaking into an anthemic beginning that they use later as a chorus, and then some pretty slow hardcore with just totally killer guitars.

Best hardcore I’ve heard in ages, 4 awesome, raging songs with top lyrics too. If you took Avail and PUKU13, mixed them together and made them together, you’d get this.
