Tumbling forth from that cop-out of cop-outs, that wonderfully fashionable waste of resources, the one-sided seven inch come Welcome The Plague Year. As if you didn’t know already, WTPY play screamo music of an epic bent. This means that their songs last longer than two minutes and they haven’t thoroughly spent their creative force after a single silly temper tantrum. The one song here is a righteous scream-fest combining the jagged razzle-dazzle of scene pioneers Neil Perry with the drawn-out bludgeoning of One Eyed God Prophecy before slowing down with a great aching bass workout that sounds like pieces of metal grinding together, punctured by chordal stabs as the singer continues to shriek and howl about the fact that we never listened to the trees, conveniently forgetting that his own one-sided record isn’t particularly environmentally friendly itself. Soon enough the screaming ceases and the tune tails off into some pretty instrumental playing which is eventually drowned out by a persistent electronic hiss and some overlapped political monologues that lead us neatly to the record’s end. Decent, but very fucking brief.
