So a new split cd between two fairly popular of the moment bands, first up is With Honor who I guess prior to this release would of been the band I preferred being as they were kinda positive melodic hardcore a la a more melodic Bane or something. The songs on this split are a lot more angry than I remember the last lp being and it sounds like they spent alot of time and money on writing and recording them, they are pretty good I guess but there are some little multitracked Thursday-esque melodic choruses going on which will take some getting used to….
The Distance half is alot more spiky and lyrically a lot more negative and introverted, they’ve also stopped sounding so much like Carry On which I think is good (not that I don’t like Carry On or whatever, the lp rocked), bands like this forging thier own identities a bit more is definitely to be encouraged.
If you are trying to ease someone into this type of stuff then this is probably a good place to start them, but it probably won’t grace the want lists of the scene elite, unless it’s on splatter vinyl of course…
