Labels: Boss Tuneage
Review by: Ian Cavell
It would be fair to say that Boss Tuneage releases veer (sometimes quite alarmingly) between the good and the bad. And while I’m been a consistent admirer of the poppy punk that is becoming synonymous with the label, its rare to find a band that instantly clicks on every level and on every front. Until, that is, this particular EP dropped onto my doormat and then its fast forward to power pop heaven. Six fantastically addictive tracks, voraciously driven by the exuberance of the opening song ‘Too Bad, Too Sad’, the stand-out track from this particular release. And when the pace is dropped a notch or two for tracks such as ‘Because She Does’ its just as satisfying.
Over the last year or so I’ve somehow become desensitised to pop-punk, regarding the vast majority of it with the same level of disdain usually reserved for people who actually think Spunge have some musical merit (if Norwich had a real scene I would just have been ostracised). So when I say this is not only the best Boss Tuneage release to date, but one of the strongest pop punk records I’ve heard in a long, long time, this is not something to be taken lightly. This my friend, is the good shit.
