The press release for this seems fairly spot on, in that it compares the bands music to q and not u, and describes them accurately using phrases such as “angular’, “chaotic rhythms’, “jumpiness’ and “edginess’, as well as “fantastic'”¦and I have to say I have to agree with this statement. To add my own take on their sound, sometimes I swear I can hear something akin to a sassier Ten Grand at times, with yelps and contained screams in the vocal department.
There’s a whole load of melody underlying the off-kilter beats and mathy guitars here, which is why these two songs tend to get better on every listen once you unpick the jazzy structures and discordant guitars.
“They dance like that in clubs’ is the most rockin’ track here “” I especially like the way the title of the song title is chanted towards the end “” ironically a very danceable moment. “A life in a morning with”¦’ is similarly wandering with bouncy bass lines and choppy guitars careering pleasingly around. I don’t think I’ve heard many british bands attempting something like this, so major props to Written From Negative for a couple of sublime songs, and a nice 7″.
I suggest if the rambling attempt at a description above interests you, then you could do far worse than getting hold of this slab of homegrown goodness, support your local scene, etc etc “” click on the link.
