Review by: Ian Cavell
A collection of pretty much everything recorded by this appallingly named band. As far as I can tell they existed for at best two or three years, recorded a one sided 12″ and a 7″, featured Simon (ex-Snuff, now playing quality UK punk-rock with Southport) and some other people who no doubt have either (a) been in Snuff, (b) are currently in Snuff or (c) will play some future part in the line up of Snuff. Somewhat surprisingly, Your Mum, sound a bit like Snuff.
Wait, come back… old Snuff that is! Not like the shit they’re churning out these days. And mixed in with the classic UK melodic-punk sound that was rife in the scene before every one started playing indie-rock. And there are some great sounding songs on here; if melodic punk rocks your boat then you won’t be disappointed with tracks such as ‘Story of the Falling Sleet’ and ‘Punksong’. Sure, the recording is a little ropey at times and the songs a little rough around the edges but you can’t mess with a good song. However, the Discography nature of the CD does mean you get to hear some of the less successful musical ventures… skip the mediocre tracks (of which, it has to be said, are few) and the thrashy, garbled nonsense that gets tacked on at the end but stay and get an earful of the strangely intriguing ‘E-core (disco remix)’. It sounds like the kind of music that you’d hear in a film like Flash Gordon. They should have sampled Brian Blessed, if you ask me.
15 tracks, 40 minutes, you probably won’t listen to it much, but when you do you’ll say, “man, this shit is good, why don’t I listen to it more often”.
