This is some rough and ready indie rock from 3 folks down in Brighton. It was hidden amidst a pile of other stuff in my room for ages, but here it is. I found it. And its really quite solid. They open with the pick of the bunch, a nice and fuzzy melodic song that splices together some cutesy midwest-emo style bounce and curiously mathematical rock of a more aggressive nature. Somehow. Not quite sure how they manage it but they certainly do. The vocals are soft and sung offkey, which also fits with the midwestern emo thing. It then explodes out of the melodies into the rockouts. Works well. Track 2 is a quickfire 1 minute and 56 seconds and what with the squawky boy vocals at the start over the fast guitars it draws a comparison to Cap’n Jazz, but a Cap’n Jazz that also enjoy the likes of Unwound or Slint. Third song is really enjoyable too, a low-key indie rocker that burns without much intensity, apart from brief moments where it really kicks into life. I have to admit though that the cd kind of falls away after these 3 good uns, the last 3 tracks didn’t really float my boat nearly so much, kind of recycling some of the parts from the other songs – and parts of the 4th song sound too much like the Batman theme for comfort. Still, I like what I heard overall, this is a solid demo and if you’re into fiddly indie rock you should check ’em out.
