This is one of those records you get given for review and you think to yourself “what the fuck is this??” I was kind of worried it was going to be a chore but thankfully it isn’t! Zelienople are based in Chicago and have a really nice indie rock feel to them in the simplest of ways (remember when you used to think Tristeza were one of the best bands ever??) but manage to keep you listening for the full journey of the record. They have a nice simple haunting feeling to them, like The Album Leaf with vocals (and thankfully not the god-awful Bright Eyes styled vocal like on their collaboration) but doing covers of Codeine and Low songs. At times the singer can sound a little like one of the singers from 90 Day Men as well, you know that style of singing which is just pretty damn cool?? I think this is a great fucking record and I’m going to keep my eyes open for this band again, this is lovely!!
