Ampere - Ringers - split - 6

Shit me. A band playing emo violence in 2007 has no right to be as good as Ampere. No right at all. Each time they have a new release out I figure “This will be the one where I get bored of them yelling and playing fast” and each time they blow me away. Each fucking time! How do they do it? “Abject Failure” is a flurry of rampant guitars, hoarse vocals and blurred melody, picking up the broken pieces from Orchid, Witching Hour, and End of the Century Party, and haphazardly glueing it all back together into one glorious, sticky mess. Outstanding.

Ringers is a pop punk band that I haven’t really latched on to as yet. They seem to be fairly popular but their Broadways / East Bay type gruff punk kind of leaves me feeling a bit indifferent. It’s all very well executed and that, but I am still left with the lingering feeling that it’s merely average. Their song here does little to change my impression of the band.
