Darsombra is the solo outing of Brian Danilowski from sorely underrated metallic hardcore stalwarts Meatjack, who I believe are still fighting the good fight despite undeserved universal apathy. The mercilessly efficient approach of his other outfit has been massaged for the more ambient stylings of Darsombra, but it’s still remarkably concise for what is essentially a drone / noise act, whilst still managing to fit in the necessary crescendos. There’s some of your typical delay-pedal fuelled guitar noodling which give way to nice bursts of Thrones-esque power-chord purity, with distortion that has a lovely, crushing warmth to it. Packaged as a cute 3″ CD this is well worth getting.”
