Old Growth - s/t - CD (2005)

From Portland in the States, Old Growth feature dudes from Science Of Yabra and Twelve Hour Turn, but don’t expect much in the way of twisty turny hardcore noise. This is a charming little slice of indie-rocking genius that evokes The Lemonheads, Husker Du and other straight-up melodic but rocky bands. The guy can’t sing amazingly well, but he’s near enough to add to the throwaway charm of these simple, direct, jangly tunes that get straight into your head, making it hard to begrudge the lack of invention. I can’t wait until summer (all two weeks of it) so that I can sit on a porch somewhere with a cool drink and bust this out.
