Oof! Like Tetris played with the monoliths from 2001, these riffs just come slamming down, one after the other, onto your soft skull until your brains ooze out your ears, nose and arse. “Griefhound”” sets the stall out. A simple riff churns away reaching a kind of zen repetitive state where songs cease to be songs and instead become tantric mantras to the high priestess guardians of the holy riff. And with no fucking bassist either. The sick Melvins-worship continues on the subsequent more drawn-out tracks that perhaps err on the side of lengthiness and there’s little here that quite touches upon the majestic chiming subtlety of their best song “”Celeste”” (from previous release “”Flooding The Weir””) but it’s still a great release that looks and sounds fucking awesome.”
