Unearthly Trance don’t do bad songs. Their totally addictive blend of satanic doom and crunchy hardcore takes the gnarly, heavy, pained feel of the former and focuses it to a fine point, never allowing things to descend into soporific pointlessness. “Phoenix Undead” is an exemplary track, consisting of a clutch of great riffs, all innately depressing whilst still retaining a keen melodic sense, gliding together through neat time changes that occur at exactly the right time. “Veins” isn’t quite as good, but it still totally kills it with its slower pace and ace psychedelic freakout that this reviewer heartily approves of. Like all Land O’ Smiles releases, the release is limited and the presentation is impeccable, with the dark hued artwork given maximum rein on a gatefold sleeve.
