‘Entonces’ was the first song I heard by this band on their Myspace page I believe and I thought wow, this was going to be a Spanish version of Pop Unknown but when I played the whole of the album it didn’t pan out that way. That’s not a bad thing, though. That song still feels a little unique in it’s immediacy, reminding me of the old Deep Elm sounds, but the rest of the record has a lot to offer also.
The album has nine tracks and lasts 53 minutes so if you’re even not that good at maths it should tell you this is quite a lengthy album, songs sometimes creep about in an almost Slint-esque manner and start or end or both with a couple of minutes of instrumentation. Still at the heart of the band is the indie rock core, as evidenced by songs like ‘Valver A Empezar’ and ‘La Sal En Los Ojos’ but at times their more instrumental ‘jam’, almost post-rock moments go on a little too long and don’t really add much to their appeal.
The album might be quite hard to get into, but there are many good things going on here and it’s great to see BCore still being as productive and varied as they ever were.
