I had a good laugh at the “to our eternally understanding families” credit in the thanks list. You can just picture mums and dads shaking their heads and muttering about “getting proper jobs”. I’m glad a.P.A.t.T. never listened, because this sound like (and please bear with me, I beg of you) wartime jazz remixed by Mantronix on keyboards, drums, cello, guitar-that-sounds-nothing-like-a-guitar, djembe, Vanuatan butt trumpet and vibes, while Moss Side’s reject cast of “Why Don’t You?” sing the theme from “Oliver”, just as System Of A Down remove their heads from their warm, warm asses and let rip with an actual sense of humour. Mike Patton ties another elastic band round his cock as Slayer provide Devo-covering backups to replace the house band on Chris Morris’ haunted Mississippi fun boat as a million suns explode overhead. You (don’t) get the idea. Perhaps too mad to sit through in one go, and too bitty to cherrypick choons, you can’t deny that each track is a banger in its own, individual way. The ideal party record (for one of those scary, confusing gatherings where someone gets killed).
