I’ve swung both ways on this album. A couple of listens I have really enjoyed it, a couple I have turned it off half way through. You can probably guess from the name that this is some pretty cheeseball stuff, and, yes, it is. It’s basically Dawsons Creekmo (been a while since I could wheel that one out! – you remember the deal, all over-wrought teenagers whining and whatnot), with Blink 182 type vocals. A couple of the songs hint towards something better, and it is undeniably catchy, but in the end, what you have, is Sundays Best crossed with Red Letter Day era Get Up Kids crossed with Blink 182. Now that may well appeal to some people, and I do admit that there have been times when listening to this that it has totally appealed to me too. I am sucker for twinkling guitars, no matter what they are combined with. Ultimately though, the nasal whine of the vocals prevents me from enjoying it quite as much as I otherwise would. If the vocals more were more to my tastes on this record then it’d be far, far better as far as I am concerned, but as it stands, I don’t think I’ll be revisiting this one. Now please join me in the ceremonial punching of Dawson in his ridiculous face.
