Broken Arm - Shields Mystical - CD (2008)

Here’s a cracking little six-tracker from Leeds, with formers Sailors (as in the band) continuing the jagged art-rock thing, infusing proceedings with a definite punk spirit. You get some neatly intuitive drumming that can rock AND roll when needs be, nailed down basslines that carry the melody, quality squalling guitar with that cheesewire Albini sound, and nicely hoarse, semi-sung vocals that have enough personality and swagger to push the whole lot outside of the obvious sphere of Stooges / Jesus Lizard / Circus Lupus influence, and all with a refreshing lack of fucking about. Nice simple sleeve too.
