The pallindromic Raw Radar War (formerly Septic Youth Command) finally drop their atom bomb, and its destructive power is pretty fucking evident in their bloody-minded psychotic hardcore attack. The songs are nothing more than sketches really, with simplistic, atonal, minor chord progressions relentlessly bashed out with zero mucking about in next to no time. The first four songs (including a Jerry’s Kids cover) rip by in as many minutes. I shouldn’t bring up singer Jonah Jenkins’ previous band Milligram, as they’re a separate entity that’s been dead and buried for a while now (which is a shame given their last album is a modern monsterpiece) but RRW are a definite step backwards in terms of musical progression. That’s the whole point anyway, but a little bit of me misses hearing Jenkins giving his fine (singing) voice full reign. But what the hell, this kicks both buttocks, and he makes up for it by bellowing and screaming like a madman on fire. Everything else sounds so totally bloated and distorted that I don’t care that it made me deaf. The song from the demo that they’ve cranked right down sounds like a caveman Eyehategod too.
