Throats - the Network - Notes from the Turncoat Campaign - CD (2008)

Labels: Holy Roar
Review by: Dan Sansam

Throats are without a doubt one of the best UK bands around playing the Converge / Ed Gein type metalcore/hardcore. They’ve got all the riffs and live they’re intense and out of control. The one thing that lets them down is that whenever they record, the production never does them justice. At all. It just sounds so thin. This band need to be the wall of noise they are in the live environment. These boys still lay to waste the hundreds of bands doing this sort of thing and with the production they deserve, on the back of the songs on offer here, they’d be looking to topple Converge from their throne!

When “˜Rabid Electronics’, The Networks first offering, comes through the speakers, I thought someone was playing me the new Red Chord record. No I’m wrong, it’s DEP. No wait, it’s Ion Dissonance. OK, it’s a bit like all the above bands. It’s not bad but it’s not great either. It’s got tempo changes all over the place and these guys are definitely competent but it’s nothing you haven’t heard before. If you’re going to play this sort of thing, you need to be really good else you’re just going to get swept up in the current.
