Labels: Flight Plan
Review by: Andy Malcolm
It’s not often that we get a nice slab of vinyl for review, so its always a nice event when one turns up. Memorial took a little while to warm up with me, but now I am “feeling it” a bit more. Still not quite sold on the whole deal, but this is some rocking post-hardcore. Apparently they were lined up for a release on Revelation, and they would have fitted really well on that label, which may well put you off the band entirely, or otherwise. What you’ve got is desperate vocals over hefty melodic riffs and hooks, just like your favourites from the mid 90s post hardcore crowd, e.g. Quicksand or something. That also means that it sounds a bit like the Foo Fighters.
Weirdly, given that is on vinyl, there are two tracks that are supposed to flow into each other, and there is a gap between them, like you are listening on an mp3 player. BADLY MASTERED (? or whatever technical term I should be using), DUDES. Anyway, this LP is pretty decent if you like soaring guitars / vocals, big rock riffs and post-hardcore influences. It’s perhaps a little too on the grungey side for me at times, but then again I like Ordination of Aaron and loads of emo shit that sounds like grunge, so maybe I should shut the fuck up.
