Buh-luddy hell! I don’t spend every wa(n)king moment listening to stuff like this, so when Origin’s previous albums fell into my lap, I was so overwhelmed with their brute force and technicality, that I was falling over myself to sing their praises. I didn’t actually notice that there weren’t real tunes behind the barrage because I was too busy trying (and failing) to get my head around things. But along comes “Antithesis” and blows all that out the water, because instead of tons of riffs and no songs we’re treated marginally fewer riffs and an album full of the buggers. “Finite” is the best example that embodies this, a tune using ten notes where one might suffice, and drumming so fast that John Longstreth actually goes back in time, yet I’m still able to hum it while typing this review up. Incredible.
