If you’re one of those kind of bastards who gets wistful at the lack of nut kicking emo, then you will want to pick up this seven inch. All Through A Life (assume they’re named after the Rites of Spring seven) are totally getting back to the mid 90s with this 3 track explosion of goodness. It’s the shouted vocals on the edge of tears, the raw production, the thumping groove, the non-bullshit lyrics, the blasting guitars that show you a melody then pull it away on a bit of string… it’s all here. Just like it was the first time around.
It is such a blessed relief to hear a band that wants to crank out this kind of thing. You can count on the fingers of one hand the number of noisy emo bands right now. Sure, you can level accusations of rehash or lack of invention, but I think we’re all resigned to the fact that hardcore punk rock is pretty much dried up when it comes to new sounds, so if you’re going to listen to a new band revisit the past, they may as well do it properly. If you never got bored of Four Hundred Years, Embassy or Shotmaker, then this is the record for you. Top bloody notch.
