Noism - ± - CD (2008)

Labels: Crucial Blast
Review by: Alex Deller

Dropping their first proper album after the best part of a decade together, freakish Japanese grind duo Noism were certainly taking their sweet time in getting their shit together. Has to be said, though, that for all the faffing it was certainly worth it, the enigmatically-titled ‘±’ is nothing less than a mind-flaying clusterfuck of incomprehensible meth-jitter riffs and glitch-riddled drum programming that spirals out of control in far too many directions to ever keep track of. Namedropping the likes of Crom-Tech, Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Phantomsmasher will probably start you down the right path, but in all honesty it barely does the bastard thing justice. Instead, just try hard to pay attention and take comfort in the fact that you might just have it all figured out by the time they release another one in ten years time.
