Moitessier - demo - CD (2008)

Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Try spelling that band name after a few Guinnesses, jeebus. Anyways, M (as I shall refer to this band, so as to avoid spelling error related embarrassment) is at least one chap from Pictures Paint Words, and this is a demo recorded way back in May 2008. If you are familiar with PPW, then you should be able to pick up that thread with M, as they do a similar brand of mathy indie rock with some keen poppier melodies. Things are a bit rough and ready, as you may expect from a demo, and what you get is something that fits well with other English bands that did this sort of thing, such as Itch and the Green Acre. Although the second song caught me completely unawares, very much in a different ball park that I am not quite able to describe. Some noodly Party of Helicopters-ish guitar solos, and a strange groove to it, I want to compare it to something old and popular but I am not confident enough to say who. They bounce back to the mathy indie stuff on the final song though. A guy goes “Wooooooooo!” in the background. There is some keyboard, but it’s really nicely employed. Anyways, these guys have another demo due soon, and I will be interested to hear where they’ve ended up.
