Ah, sometimes I am really in the mood for some ambient(ish) noise type stuff and tonight is one of those nights so it makes sense to review it right here right now. Here we have 8 tracks of varying length (ranging from 2 to 17 minutes) packaged in a nice brown envelope featuring cut outs of sections of a dictionary and what I believe is some old Russian literature so bonus marks for the literary additions to a lyricless album.
What I like about this album is the variety of sounds and, er, noises made by these dudes that keeps the record interesting and surprising, there is a nice mix of guitars and drums as well as some less traditional noise making devices. ‘it was a thin call like a trumpet, not the muffled drumbeat of defeat’ is a standout, which rumbles along in a groovy yet menacing style. There is everything from lovely shimmering post-rock guitars to what sounds like someone fervently whisking eggs. Well worth investigating if you can’t be bothered with verses and choruses, and don’t mind your music a bit scrambled.
