God I love emo. I can generally enjoy it regardless of how I feel, whether happy or sad. Sometimes I just play it in the background, other times I turn the volume up and dance crazily to it. We all do that right? I’ve only been into the genre for about five years but I don’t think I’ll ever fall out of love with now I’m into it.
Suis La Lune play a particularly beautiful form of emo. It’s post rock like to some extent in that the guitars have a rather clean and harmonious sound. But there are desperate vocals throughout, sometimes sang and spoken but usually shouted. The songs tend to involve a mixture of slow and past parts, nice melodies mixed with explosive bits that makes me shake my head around. Comparisons can be drawn with their Scandinavian brethren Amalthea and Dominic, who do similar kinds of things.
This record is a follow up to their LP ‘Quiet, Pull The Strings!’. A great album in its own right, I think the band have developed since then and that this is even better. All four songs on here are pretty much equally as good. The first song is a really nice start, the last song is a killer ending. My only slight complaint is that there is no lyric sheet. Apart from that a definite recommendation if you like the more melodic emo coming out these days.
