Facel Vega - Harbour - Split - LP (2009)

Labels: State Run
Review by: Kunal Nandi

Everyone’s favourite Camus-quoting South Wales emo punkers lay down something on wax proper and it’s literally perfect in ever way. Urgent and noisy, but with melodies strewn through it all, totally direct but with the guitars stretching exploratory tendrils out within the confines of the sound, this sounds like Rites Of Spring updated and improved. Keep going for Christ’s sake lads.
Harbour could never hope to match that on their first time out… or could they? No, not really, but they still make a good fist of things. Kid Dynamite-y, stop-start punk gives way to neat breakdowns and proper emo bits, all hard-edged and tight as heck which is a given what with them being old hands from Night And The City Of Broken Promises and The Keep.
A great homegrown split.
