Although neither band does anything unexpected here, it’s still a cool, apt matchup with a nice local flavour since everyone involved is Irish. DeNov are primarily concerned with doom, although they don’t half love a bit of crusty hardcore, with a bunch of full-on blasty moments thrown in seemingly from out of nowhere. They toy with various vocal styles; one guy does guttural, one guy does a piercingly weird shriek, and the effect reinforces the unpredictable nature of it. WOTH’s older albums were totally filth-encrusted doom recorded in a biscuit tin with the biscuits still in it, and while the track they’ve contributed is the best sounding one they’ve done, it’s still mercilessly muddy and depressing as a result. Great release all round.
