Friendly Fire! Did you ever hear the really early Shivering CD? Where it sounded like a cross between Jawbreaker and Rites of Spring? Friendly Fire are doing that kind of thing! Desperate, raw vocals piled on top of guitars that are piled on top of everything else. “Sinking Feelings” guns out of the gate and doesn’t ever stop. I bet these guys would be particularly awesome live. The second song sounds like Small Brown Bike a bit, gruffer, slower and a bit more straight forward. I am not quite as excited by this one, but it’s still a decent song. Tenement are a good un too, with one long song of driving, punk powered indie rock. If you get your groove on to the likes of Anklebiter, Sleepwall, Dinosaur Jr and Archers of Loaf, then I think this will please you. I know that I for one am always in the mood for a noisy, grunged up indie rock band doing this kind of thing properly. I love the rough vocals, the buried melodies, the bassline that doesn’t sink beneath the weight of the fuzz. MAN! The more I spin this song, the more awesome it is getting to be. MORE PLEASE! These guys are a thrill. I really like the record sleeve too.
