Lost Channels, Great Lake Swimmers fourth album opens with the misleading, slightly REMish track, Palmistry. Misleading in the fact that none of the other songs on the album sound like it and from a purely personal point of view I like Great Lake Swimmers and very much dislike REM.
That aside Lost Channels is a consistent album. Melodically strong, honest songs furnished with care and performed impeccably. Concrete Heart sounds like a band who are definitely comfortable in their own skin, confident enough to be sparse where many would lay it on thick and to guide where others would preach.
Depending on where your consistency lies, some say there can be a fine line between consistent and boring. This is indeed true and thankfully Tony Dekker and company (though occasionally straying somewhat) play on the right side of that line.
