The Blinding Light - Junebug - CD (2009)

Metalcore is a genre marred by the melodic pinch harmonics of the mainstream bands like Poison The Well, Avenged Sevenfold and all that crap. There was a day, however, when metalcore meant something altogether different and The Blinding Light remember it well. Mixing the sounds of Deadguy’s back catalogue with some post rock, and even proggy, elements The Blinding Light have created an album which kicks harder than a horse. Within Junebug’s digipack casing lays nine tracks of sludge-laden brutality, each as effective as the last, while veering slightly to the side of their previous album The Ascension Attempt. My favourite tracks are Crippler and Chainsmoker, but every track evokes the sort of raw emotion you would expect delivered with a neckbreaking intensity that should light up stereos all over the world. This is a real solid slice of metalcore done in the correct manner and definitely shouldn’t disappoint fans and newcomers alike.
