I reviewed a rather spiffy debut demo EP by these guys at a similar time last year. Since then, due to my hermit like nature I have only seen managed to see these Norwichmo dudes in a live arena once, and was slightly disappointed. That EP was really good, but when I saw them supporting Pennines they were a ragged mess of twiddle and things were rather lost on me. I am guessing either that was a bad night or that live they just like to jam things out a bit more, because this 4 tracker shows the band is ridiculously adept at putting together a killer, poppy song. “Boots and Cats” is insanely good, it is as catchy an indie rock tune as I have heard in a while, it does get a touch too noodly towards the end in places, yet I love this one on the whole! The bubbly bass is insistent, and the ringing guitar is spot on. Opener “The Hobo Gauntlet” has some delightful, melodic swaying, gunning along and swirling the the twiddly bits into the whole thing. They are clearly influenced more by bands that I am not into than bands that I am, but there is enough of the stuff I like to make it work for me. The music is good, and the singer still sounds like if Klim from Long Live was a bit over excited instead of scared.
This is a solid 4 tracker, with one utterly outstanding song. Worth investigating if you like it fiddly and tuneful in equal measure.
