Elektrocas hail from the Czech Republic and this, I believe, is their second record released after a split 7” with Fetch! last year. That record is really cool by the way, Fetch! play emo with lots of nice grooving instrumental parts and vocals shouted over the top now and again. Elektrocas do a similar thing and have drawn comparisons with Yaphet Kotto, mainly because of the way the vocals are sung I think. The instruments sound somewhat similar too I suppose.
Back to this new record, Elektrocas’ sound has changed a little. I would now describe it as a sort of noise rock style combined with emo. It is to emo what Sofy Major are to screamo – it’s in the right ballpark but there are clearly other rock influences going on. The vocals on the first and second tracks ‘Bloodline’ and ‘Aimless Fight’ don’t really sound like emo at all. Having said that, on the third song ‘Disburden’ they return to sounding a bit like the song on the split with Fetch! Other songs further on have this more emo sound too.
In any case, it’s a really solid effort and I like it. Nice to see a fair few Czech bands playing this kind of thing, such as Dakhma, La Prospérité and Fetch! The long awaited Lakmé / Bökanövsky should also be out soon.
