Labels: Tornado Ride
Review by: Oli Saunders
When I found out about this record the other day I thought it was recently released but it actually turns out that it came out in 2007 or thereabouts but slipped by me. My expectations for Lady Tornado were set very high before listening as their split 10” with The Infarto Scheisse is exceptional. And these expectations were justified upon playing the first track ‘Un Istante Prima’. A slow and deceptively calm intro turns to stunning chaotic abrasiveness, the vocals sound a bit Honeywell like at times but more human. The guitars have got a great hardcore feel to them, lots of variation. The drums are intense as fuck. It’s a very similar sound to their songs on the 10” and I imagine they were written and then recorded around the same time. The second track ‘Fantasmi’ continues the chaos and is also great. This sound is very difficult to pigeonhole, there are lots of influences and it becomes an amazing and raging amalgamation of styles, in a similar way to Grinding Halt and Marat. Original and so so good.
I don’t think the Summer Camp Disease is gonna be better than this but let me see… their sound is not easy to describe either. They’ve got a nice hardcore vibe too but the vocals are quite different. There are moments of hardcore punk style shouted vocals, and then other more full on thrashlike screams. The guitars are played fairly slowly compared to a lot of thrash though. It’s decent stuff without me really being that into it. The vocals get a little annoying at times for my tastes.
Both bands are from Italy, Artwork consists of a ghoulish horse grim reaper. I love the Lady Tornado side and the Summer Camp Disease is pretty solid too.
