ECSR were responsible for the best record I heard last year, so given the opportunity to snaffle some new material I did so, although actually I think this is a repress so it could be older than I assumed. There are two songs on here and both live up to the expectations I have, if not exceed them. “Demon’s Demands” is 6 minutes of hypnotic, repetetive post punk guitar and an Australian guy rambling over the top. I am sure it is not the intention, but in many places this song sounds like a prime Moss Icon offcut (circa “It Disappears”), but I guess both bands just have similar influences. The wandering guitar groove is jaw dropping, and those vocals fit it perfectly. No question, this is top of the heap for me. “I’m Guilty” occupies the flip side, and plunders similar territory, but leaning more on the garage side perhaps, with the guitars more raucous in places. Still, it latches on to you and doesn’t let go, building the tension and repeating the basic riff almost moronically, yet strangely never outstaying it’s welcome. I prefer the other side, but I would prefer the other side to almost anything.
I can’t wait to hear where these guys go next.
