Lautrec - 8 songs - CD (2008)

Labels: self released
Review by: Danny Parsons

Quite a neat little piece this; ex-members of Fiction Like Non-Fiction (you can probably tell most from the guitar and vocal work) incorporating elements of indie into their otherwise screamo outfit (dare I say it, some of the guitar parts remind me of Meet me in St. Louis). Eight songs in total (as the EP title suggests!) which is a little too much for me if I’m honest. This kind of thing gets a little stale quite quickly; this is by no means a bad EP, it’s catchy as hell and has some ace melodies but after the fourth song I’m wondering when it’s going to end. It’s simply too much of the same thing. Excuse my brevity, but I really don’t have that much to say about this. Overall, it’s quite a fun listen; really energetic and hitting all the right spots for me. That’s just the first four songs though, the rest seem a bit throw-away if you get my gist. Oh, except “˜Word Problems’ “” that’s a really good tune. Like so many other bands of this ilk, I’m afraid that if they change I will cease to enjoy the music that they make. If they continue doing this sort of thing, I’ll become bored. I can’t win!
