Guinea Worms - Lost & Found - 7

Labels: Botulism Music – Savage
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Having been rather taken with the Guinea Worms track on the “World Lousy…” comp, I was quite keen to check them out. This seven inch offers up to contrasting styles to the band. “Lost and Found” is a weird, lumbering effort with fat, oaf-ish bass and bleepy prog keyboards, and rather disconcerting spoken vocals. This is… peculiar. I am not entirely sure I am into this but great lyrics “Do you think Jesus, was having a good time? From the time he turned 12 until he was about, 29? I have no doubt about it, if my life was his, I’d keep on partying until god made me think about it”, amongst many of others.

B-side “Jeans and Heels” is where this seven is at mind you, squelching into existence amidst thumping bass and squealing guitar. This one sways back and forth on a rickety groove whilst the same slightly disconcerting vocals from the other side lurch over the top. This one thumps along uniquely for several minutes. I never quite get a handle on it, but I really appreciate the rhythm and the “ICE IS GONNA BREAK!” vocals that repeat more and more urgently at the end.

Fucking ASCII artwork too!
