Quite the breath of fresh air this! Before I crack on with the actual music, I’ve gotta focus on the packaging. It all comes in a neat little hand-stamped envelope; there’s three inserts with pictures, lyrics, thank you’s et cetera. And it’s on 3″ cdr! Bonus. The whole thing smacks of DIY. First up is Yossarian is Drowning and I think these songs might actually be on a par with those on their 7″. Really good stuff. Chaotic as fuck with itsy bitsy smiddgins of melody here and there. Always loved the vocals in this band too “” really coarse and, well”¦English sounding. COOL. We are Corpses, although I’m not too fond of their name, took me by complete surprise. I had never actually heard them before and these three songs are super good. The first song “” “You Cannot Be Serious’ “” is largely instrumental; everything kicks in about half-way through though. Excellent, old-fashioned screamo stylings! I suppose a basic point of comparison would be Neil Perry or something like that, but I swear there’s a bit of Joshua Fit for Battle or Welcome the Plague Year influence in there somewhere. Apologies if I’ve concentrated on WAC slightly more than YID but they’ve excited me quite a bit more than I was expecting. All in all this is a really great posthumous split; my only bug-bear being that it wasn’t released on 7″ as originally intended. Stand-out sections for me are the vocals screamed at the end of YID’s “New Song 2′ “” “And I’ll miss the safety of home”. ACEmo. Oh, and everything by We Are Corpses stands out too. Great stuff.
