Copy of a Copy - This Is It - CD (2009)

Labels: Whatwebelieve Records
Review by: Samuel Fowler

You know that teddy you gran bought you when you were about three, that you still have tucked away in your bed (or depending on how “œcool” you are- hidden in your cupboard)? Yeah, YOU know the one I’m talking about… well, that’s what Copy of a Copy are. Not literally of course, as Copy of a Copy are a group of young men from France with baggy shorts and Comeback Kid t-shirts, whereas Mister Teddles is a bear (and a mighty fine one at that). But the general principle holds. Just as you know you should have given your teddy away when you were 16 and you’re all serious and definitely too old for all that silliness (I mean you’ll never live this down with the guys at the office right?), and you know that your too old to listen to Copy of a Copy. But you still do anyway. Because that’s how it works.

Y’ see, No Trigg.. errr.. Copy of a Copy realise themselves that they’re not exactly groundbreaking, and that were you (for example) to be seeking some fresh new minimal electro dubstep cuts, you’d be a bit pissed. As the press release (press releases are awesome!) amusingly puts it that they are “œnot special” and are “œnot a unique or beautiful snowflake”. I’m pretty sure this album came out about 5 years ago on Epitaph, and that some of the tracks sound suspiciously like they might have been pilfered from a Belvedere album.

But I checked in the rules and this is all OKAY! And TOTALLY COOL! The songs are pretty catchy and infectious, and you can tell they’re really into what they do.. I bet they jump around a lot live and are pretty fun to watch.. If you want to relive your youth back when you had a XL Lagwagon t-shirt, spiky hair, and skated to school then why don’t you own this already? You could definitely do much worse. Like that shitty new Strike Anywhere album for example.
