Although I initially thought this was awesome, this ended up being a bit of a chore to get through. The pairing of Black Saturn’s unorthodox rhymes and subduxtion’s unpredictable, sometimes jazzy, sometimes funky, sometimes drone-y backings seems genius for the first half (or thereabouts) of each track. The problem is that, much like on his Un:mxd CD, Subduxtion’s beats tend to lose momentum before the end of each track. Perhaps this wouldn’t be a problem if Black Saturn’s flow was more linear and accessible but it is easy to switch off to that too and everything ends up feeling a bit flat. Both of these guys are obviously talented and it is a real shame that this doesn’t work better because it has some glimmers of greatness.
