Review by: David Giles
I am confident that the most talented band ever to turn their hand to this type of melodic hardcore would fail to catch my attention. My First Failure, being a relatively mediocre replica of the Bridge 9 archetype, didn’t captivate me atall. These guys aren’t horrible musicians and the female vocals are refreshing enough. My issue, as with almost every record I review these days, is the type of music they have chose to play. Mid-tempo, chuggy hardcore with stereotypical, relatively vacuous lyrics (“…and we will revolt!”) and regular breakdowns has just been done so many times before by so many bands that it’s difficult to get excited about more of the same. I do understand that there is a huge market for this brand of hardcore and anyone into this stuff will probably think this CD is alright (in fact, I plan on giving this to a friend who digs this stuff). However, this doesn’t stand out to me as particularly good or original. If you’re looking for female-fronted German hardcore, you’d be a lot better off listening to Glasses.
